Finding Hard To Find Things… And People!

The Internet can be both a blessing and curse. Practically anything and everything you could possibly want to know is at your disposal. However, that makes it difficult if you only want to find one thing in particular. What can start off as an interesting adventure in the World Wide Web can end up feeling like you’ve wound up in the online Bermuda Triangle.
Fortunately, since the Internet is growing at an exponential rate, people are devising ways to break it down. Top dog search engines Google and Yahoo! have both created applications that help contain all your favorite RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feeds, and we’ll tell you how to get them!
Google Reader is an application you can stick right in your tool bar that allows you to subscribe to the RSS of all your favorite sites. It’s basically an email inbox for the whole Net. If you’re looking for something in particular like, a new (or used!) coffee table, you can subscribe to all the feeds from your favorite sites that might help you find one (like the ever resourceful Craigslist). No more going to each website to check everyday!
Similar to Google Reader, Yahoo! Pipes is now on the scene with a flashy new site. Pipes is an interactive data aggregator and manipulator that allows you to bring together all your favorite online data sources. You can combine many feeds into one then sort, filter, and translate to create the ultimate custom feed. Pipes has a lot more bells and whistles than Google Reader, but serves the same function. If you have the time and interest to explore all the applications available, then definitely create your very own “Pipe,” so the things you need to find, can eventually find you.
Sometimes the hardest things to find online are people. Unfortunately, you can’t stay in contact with everyone you’ve ever met, but sometimes there are people you really wish you could have. Just a decade ago, it was near impossible to locate an old friend, schoolmate, or even a family member online. Now there are so many people search engines, like PrivateEye.com, to help you find people online. It’s a great tool for finding anyone, anywhere in the country.
So whether you need to find a coffee table, the hottest sneakers, or your former best friend, there are many easy tools you can use to find them in the sometimes overwhelming abyss of the Internet.
