Finding A Doctor

Choosing a doctor is as selective and personal as finding a pair of shoes; it needs to be the perfect fit or you’ll end up regretting spending the money on something that looked nice. Doctors are the same way. You can’t be fooled by flashy offices or big names. Just because a doctor worked “miracles” for your best friend’s sister, doesn’t mean he’s the health care practitioner for you. Luckily there are lots of sites out there to help you figure it all out.
If you hadn’t already heard about it, WebMD is an awesome site. Most people tend to use it for self-diagnosis purposes, but the site can be used for so much more. It’s a really informative site in general; there are articles about everything related to health issues.. If you need an answer to a not-so-serious health problem, you’re almost sure to find it here. What most WebMD users don’t know is that you can use the site to locate a doctor in your area. It has an extensive physician directory, which is easy to navigate. You can search by location (city, state, and/or zip code), doctor’s last name (partial spelling is ok), or if you don’t know either of these pieces of information then you can search by specialist.
While the doctor search on WebMD is very easy to use, it isn’t the site’s primary focus. A great site that is strictly dedicated to finding a physician is RevolutionHealth.com , which is almost like a travel site for health. It allows the users to rate doctors and hospitals just like you would rate hotels and restaurants. You can search for doctors in your area by specialty, conditions, or treatments and procedures. Reviews for doctors are available so that you can make the most informed decision possible. Another nice feature is that you can also look up dentists and hospitals in your area. If you want full access to the site, you’ll need to sign up and register at no cost.
One of the most trusted and renowned online source for physician
information is BestDoctors.com . It was founded in 1989 by a group of doctors affiliated with the prestigious Harvard Medical School. The physicians on this network are only the best, and have a solid reputation. The site was even featured on the popular television news show, “60 Minutes”. This is a great resource to take advantage of if you are diagnosed with a serious illness and are in need of a top notch specialist. Unfortunately, you will be charged for access into the site and use of the search tools.
While it is fortunate that we live in world where we are privy to valuable information, it can sometimes be overwhelming and misleading. If you are ever unsure of any doctor, you can always check the American Board of Medical Specialties, to confirm that they are board certified or PrivateEye.com to confirm any professional licenses. Whatever you do, in the end be as choosy with your doctors as you would a good pair of shoes. A solid pair, like a solid doctor, can last you for years.
