Finding a Tutor

Whether you are currently in school, have kids in school, or just want to learn something new, a tutor is a great way to enhance you or your child’s education. No matter if it’s an issue of not being challenged or falling behind, sometimes classroom instruction just isn’t enough. Also, tutoring can be a great way for non-students to learn, or perfect a subject they have always wanted to, in their own home!
Finding the right tutor is easier than you think. There are tons of trusted sites out there that will help pair you up with the right tutor. A good place to start is TutorNation.com, which has been connecting students with local private and in-home tutors and teachers in the United States and Canada since 1999. You have the option of finding tutors who will work with you in person, as well as online tutors you can email with questions. You are able to contact tutors directly, choose one that is right for you, and schedule personal tutoring sessions. The best part is the search is always free.
Another site we found helpful is TutorMatch.com, which was formerly called Tutor200. Founded in 1996, it was designed to help students easily connect with qualified tutors nationwide. Now it offers tutors worldwide, but continues to concentrate on tutors and students located in the US. They offer an easy-to-use search which allows students to browse through registered tutors who can meet in person or have a tutoring session online. It’s a credible site that has been around for a while, and takes privacy very seriously.
However, if you do choose to have a tutor come into your home for an in-person session, then you should always be careful. Running a quick background check on our favorite site, PrivateEye.com, is an especially good idea if you are hiring a tutor for your child. These are definitely trusted sites, but in today’s world, you can never be too careful. So run a background check, and learn with peace of mind.
